Food is more than sustenance—it is a vessel for storytelling, a reflection of history, and a bridge between generations. Across the African Diaspora, food has been a means of survival, adaptation, and deep cultural expression. While dishes have evolved to suit new environments and available ingredients, their roots remain unmistakably African. From collard greens, an adaptation of West African callaloo, to gumbo, which traces back to West African meat stews, the culinary connections between Black communities worldwide tell a powerful story of resilience and continuity.

Highly Flavoured is a food truck festival celebrating these shared histories through food, art, and community. Inspired by the success of food festivals like Smorgasburg, this concept reimagines a gathering space specifically for the Black community—one where culture is honored, businesses are supported, and traditions are preserved.
